Well, no. And we were voting Democrat until maybe 2000. And the George Wallace election happened in 1968, a time when Southern Democrats were beginning to lose their pendulum momentum. The last time almost all former confederate states voted was for Carter in 1976. After a tumultuous two decades, Republicans finally managed to grab and hold the south using the very same rhetoric of Southern Democrats of old.
Only they targeted the homeless, lgbts, then migrants, and now finally muslims. Their list of undesirables continues to grow.
