God commanded Abraham to be circumcised as part of the Abrahamic covenant, that being 4,000 years ago, not 2,000 years ago. This then continued under the giving of the Mosaic Law, which was about 3,500 years ago. Now, I said you clearly hadn't read Galatians, and based upon your comment, you still clearly haven't. Galatians was written to address Christians who were listening to Judaizers who wanted to put them back under the Law, namely circumcision. Christians aren't under the Mosaic Law (Romans 10:4) and we don't have to follow circumcision. Many Christians in America don't know how to rightly divide, and they want to be under the Law.

Additionally, cutting off a flap of skin is barely comparable to chopping the whole chunk of flesh off! It's like saying removing an appendix is the same as removing a heart.

Now, before you come up with some convoluted reason as to why I'm wrong, READ GALATIANS.

Circumcision is the plain definition of “chopping genitals,” and it’s done long before the infant in question is capable of having a single independent thought about their identity. As the map I posted showed, the practice is widespread and in some places nearly universal.

Contrast that with the extensive rounds of professional therapy and consultation and the “Are you sure? Are you really, really sure?”-s that would be necessary to ever get to the point of “chopping” in a gender-transition context.

Bottom-line: The number of people worldwide who have ever chopped their own genitals by choice is minuscule compared to those who were never given a choice at all.

2000 years ago, 4000 years ago, or even older than that — the precise millennium doesn’t matter to me, point being circumcision is a practice that’s old enough to be passed down from a world totally alien from ours, which should be closely scrutinized to see if it still provides any benefit, if it ever did.

Some dietary prohibitions from that time, for example, really did have utility (and then got scooped up into religious dogma), but in the modern world we’ve figured out how to make those foods safer for consumption.

Male circumcision allegedly provided some kind of cleanliness benefit, but I’m not sure that holds up. “Female circumcision,” better termed “female genital mutilation,” is an even more invasive procedure prevalent in many of the same North African countries.
