Honestly I thought it was a fair exercise of Federal power. States can define marriage however they want, but they have to play by Federal rules when inter-state issues (such as validating other licenses) are in play AND the 14th amendment was treated fairly by carving out religious exemptions without allowing states themselves to appeal to such exemptions.
