You're right. The intention of the Founding Fathers was that the 2nd Amendment would be used for militias and that the United States would never have any standing army. Unfortunately, that didn't work out, so the original intention of the 2nd Amendment cannot be used as an interpretation of its modern-day implications. Now the only point of the 2nd Amendment is keeping guns for sporting and, of course, home defense.
