Depends from my perspective. I find it very hard to respect KKK members, but that's based on their activities as a Klan member.

Political for instance. How many people have been attacked out of the gate for being a Democrat or Republican when talking to someone of the opposite party? I don't think its entirely fair.

What if someone wasn't actually an official member of the KKK and they didn't donate or anything, but they still believed in that ideology? Personally, I just wouldn't hang around with anyone like that, but if I found myself unable to avoid their company... well, I don't know how I would react, but how I think I should react is to let them know exactly what I think of them.

I agree that political discourse would benefit greatly from a bipartisan mass-intake of chill pills, but at the same time, if, after suspending judgement and engaging politely with a person they reveal themselves to be selfish and uncaring, I would stop respecting them privately in my own head, and I don't see anything wrong with making it public. In fact, I would argue that anything less contributes to the normalization of whatever terrible beliefs they hold.

By devalue you might mean change connotations. For one person a universal respect will improve the connotation. But honestly the purpose of words is communication. Moral tags devalue all language, imho.

If someone is being homophobic just because their religion says so, or trying to push their religion on another person, I don’t really respect that. If someone believes in a “god” of some sort, and their religion doesn’t force them to be a homophobe i can easily respect their beliefs.

Same here, pretty much. If someone believes something that I understand to be factually wrong, that's one thing. But if someone takes a position that I understand to be morally wrong, that's when I would suspend my respect.

I think I oversimplified the point by using that GIF. My position isn't that a person's religion should be grounds for disrespecting them. I only used the Hell example because, in my opinion, telling someone that they're destined for unending torture (and that they deserve it, which the GIF didn't show) is the most hateful thing one can say. But religion doesn't have to enter the equation. There are atheist bigots of all kinds, and maybe I'm just immature, but I can't see the justice in treating them with the same level of respect as I would treat decent people.

People should always be respected no matter what. It is ok if you get mad or make a mistake every now and then, but you should always try to be respectful. There is an exception though, if someone is full of complete evil, then they don't deserve your respect.
