I'm a other options type. I had a similar problem with mine and I found if you put a carpeted not even big cat condo in the area they will scratch on that instead of what you don't want them to.

yeah i bought a huge cat tower for them... two weeks late the top half came tubbling off they scratched the post so much. https://i.imgflip.com/6bdhi7.jpg --> i created this yesterday in honor of my boyfriend... my cat also called me a f*ckin" b*tch this morning... he was taught to swear in english.

That's why mine's condo is only 15 inches high, so it's not a launching pad to other furniture. And I'm sure your cat has a better opinion of you than you think.

My cat was feral...so he likes to play rough too.
And I don't give him catnip because it makes him into a little fiend.
