Some people simply don't understand furries, which is why they despise them. They find it strange or unsettling when people wear animal costumes or draw creatures that resemble people. Much of that stems from online stereotypes that portray the fandom as a whole negatively, particularly those that emphasize its sexual side, which is actually only a small aspect of it. Others simply enjoy criticizing anything that is unusual or "cringe," particularly when it becomes well-liked. Because it reminds them that they don't have the same freedom, some people find it intolerable when furries are so self-assured or expressive about what they love. In actuality, the majority of hate stems from misinterpreting and passing judgment on something without ever attempting to understand its true nature.
