Me and my friend had a big talk about this... we reached this logical conclusion: They are different.
They problem was we couldn't define what exact category a neko would fit into, as nekos are (mostly) cats, so therefor any other animal wouldn't be a neko, and if it wouldn't be a neko, what would it be?
At this point me, my friend, and logic just gave up.
