They're all self serving to their degree. Money from big pharma who's financed by taxes and give public sector jobs, is the mandatory deal of the left. The ones the right use are job creators for the private sector.

In a capitalist society the party has to soothe the economic ecosystem as well (not just some individual rich people) - it is the middleman between government and the worker.
No matter what the leader wants to do, he's kept kinda humble by having to make well balanced economic choices, or else the people eventually gets too angry. So all his other visions have to fit into that instead of just doing what ever he pleases.
