Actually, hamburgers were named after the German city of Hamburg, hence its name. Hamburg steak (which was essentially just the patty and a prototype to the modern hamburger) was a delicacy there, and thus, when they were brought to America, they added buns, and boom! Hamburgers are born.

This is actually because banana candy is actually replicating a mostly extinct banana called Gros Michel. Panama disease wiped them almost all of them out in the 1950s, so it was replaced with the Cavendish (the most common type we eat today). However, Cavendish tastes different from Gros Michel so that's why banana candy doesn't really taste like a banana (Cavendish in that case) to you.
