Project Hail Mary follows Ryland Grace, a school teacher-turned-astronaut who wakes from a coma with amnesia on a spaceship, only to realize he is humanity's last hope to stop a solar-dimming parasite. He discovers his crewmates died, requiring him to solve the scientific mystery alone, eventually partnering with an alien named Rocky to save both their species.
