What we really need is no parties. Parties encourage and incentivize division, mudslinging and corrupt tactics (like rigged gerrymandering) in the government while packaging complex political issues into simplistic little boxes for the dumb.
Most vote for whoever out of party loyalty. They don't know the issues or plans. They know the word 'Republican' or the word 'Democrat'.
Abolish parties and you eradicate lowest-common-denominator pandering, inane schoolyard rivalries and force candidates to campaign not on party labels but on their fully-elaborated positions while forcing voters to actually learn those positions because they can't just vote by party label anymore.
