It is equivalent to the US Navy Seals who has also earned the highest honours a country can give him. He was sent to another country to fight dudes that had no uniforms and had no rules of engagement and to be captured by savages, meant, hopefully a quick death rather than torture. When behind the lines, backup and evac can be hours away or in some cases not at all.
