You're correct. The plane overshot the runway when landing, back in 1961. Five on the plane were injured, none seriously. It was fortunate that no train was coming. The impact knocked the track out of alignment as well as blocked the track.
The yellow thing is a basket used in the sport of disc golf. Disc golf is played like ball golf, except you throw a disc (something resembling a frisbee) into one of these baskets. Disc golf is a fun sport that is starting to develop a large international following, though most of the courses are still in the United States. Sweden has the second most courses last time I checked.
Note: Since I posted this, somebody pointed out that Franklin D. Roosevelt actually said the Churchill quote. That's true. I had checked out the quote on the internet beforehand, and the first source attributed it to Churchill. I should have checked further. It's Roosevelt.
