I don't understand why so many people believe Vietnam was a disaster. I don't really know how to emphasize to you the fact that the USA had a KDR of 10:1 (some say 8:1. Sources vary) and we had won almost every single Urban engagement. We never ran "with our tail between our legs" US forces retreated from Vietnam (I'm paraphrasing here) because staying was useless to the US, as well as tensions back in the mainland pressured Americans to pull out. only AFTER the US was gone, Vietnam had fallen.
As for Korea, If it weren't for China escalating the conflict in the mid 1950s, it would've been a landslide, even after the appearance of the Chinese, they had only managed to liberate the northern half of the Korean peninsula, and the UN forces present in South Korea could successfully hold back the Chinese and North Koreans from taking the rest of the peninsula, this would lead BOTH nations to establish the DMZ as we know it.
1:8 KDR in Vietnam, we left after a victorious campaign, 3 years later Vietnam fell and turned communist, it only fell AFTER US troops withdrew from the area.
As for Korea, you have a valid point, but if it weren't for the US and the rest of the UN, Korea would be communist as well, so maybe the US is doing a good job and you're only hearing what those commies want you to hear
