That is how you do it. I don't make memes like that because I prefer to actually be funny.

I do feel kinda sad when I work so hard to make all these subtle connections and stuff in my memes, and then like the only non-joke one I have makes it to the top..

Even more irritating when a copycat meme makes the front page or does really well. There are a few right now up on the list and I'm like, wtf? We saw this last week....on the front page too? Laugh at the same joke often do we?

sometimes that particular meme is appropriate at the time but i cant remember the exact meme or creator. i dont do it to rip someone off but to show their meme was worthy of being remembered.

Subtle doesn't work very well, in my experience, if your goal is to get a lot of upvotes. Timing and placement is a big factor but can not be predicted, especially with custom templates. Bad Luck Brian is still king of imgflip, I always go to BLB when I want to get some upvotes.

It didn't work for me... I celebrated my first leaderboard appearance by thanking the community; it got like three likes. I guess I'll have to stick with making entertaining memes...

Oh that sucks. Imgflip has nice people, but so far they don't appear to be very predictable

My only front page meme was a generic complaint about stupid pointless memes. Had a couple of good ones on the second page, but it seems that unless you're Raydog or making conservative memes, there is no consistent way to make front page. I guess everyone's sense of humor is that different.

I guess people could relate to that feeling? Honestly idk why some memes make the front page (including mine)

I make a meme and a flipper leaves a text comment saying its cool and i should submit it. flippers comment gets more upvotes than actual meme?
