That's how it works brother, I got my 1st call to jury duty about 30 years ago. Its more about doing your "civic duty" then getting paid. It was kind of funny, they had coffee and cheap Danish as a snack in the waiting room, to partake you had to forfeit your 12.00 so they could do they same for the next group.

People who say things like "that's how it works/that's how it is/that's just the way it is/etc" have already given up. Things can always be undone.

And FYI, I understand the process of jury duty fine, I'm just saying that whatever state you're in is ripping you off with the reimbursement. And especially with the snack trap.

The ONLY way things are the way they are now, is because people aren't speaking up. If the people would wake up and speak, individual's rights would be more constitutional around here. :{

I'm in AZ now, but it worked the same in VA. Don't get me wrong, I'm a strong advocate for professional jurors. I think the courtroom has become too technical to leave it to chance that random people will understand it. It would also do a lot as far as speeding up the judicial system.

I'm not for that at all. You haven't thought that out fully. They would be corrupted like any official position and would only make things worse when it comes to a constitutional republic.

The Constitution was written in plain English(at the time) so that ALL could read it and it was written clearly enough(for the time) that anyone who could read could understand it.

That's partially what's wrong with the current Judicial/Legislative systems. They THINK that you have to have degrees/experience to interpret it and the law and make a habit out of writing and interpreting laws in a way that confuses most people today.

The real solution would be to revert to the original Constitution with only one change. Instead of "all men" make it read "all people" are created equal. Bam! Constitutional Republic saved.

As for the economy, reverting would cause states to be able to issue currency again and the Federal Reserve would eventually go out of business here in the US. We, as a nation, would then only be able to pay off debts with precious metals instead of fiat credit. But we'd also have to leave the UN(a great thing to do) and that might make them want to attack us to control our resources, but we'll just decimate those fools. :{

Its just as easy to have corrupt voluntary jurors. Many have been bought through the years. We will just have to agree to disagree on the professional juror point. :)

Well if you can see that normal jurors are corruptible, you should be able to see that the "professional" breed would be as well. The system of jurors isn't and has never been the problem. It's the judges/lawyers/legislatures that are the problem at this point. :{

I get it, but to be honest I'm really not feeling good enough tonight to put up much of a defense on any position. We'll get the chance to pick it up again I'm sure.

Typical!!!! I was able to slip out of my jury duty,... as a contractor,.. I would have lost my job. The 1st time was on a civil trial,... I had just had my own,... was excused. =)

I hear ya, I essentially traded 200.00 for 12.00. The defendant was accused of identity theft to support a meth habit. That was about the worst mix with meth deaths have hit close to home and having my personal info stolen on 3 separate occasions.

"civic duty" is a failed concept... its the same people in the pool all the time. Its a good thing maybe,... I would want some "demographics" judging anything.

Bernie is proof that there are no John F. Kennedy voters left, everyone wants it all to be done for them.

As a contract instructor,.. no way I could miss days working. The ADA was a dick,... didn't care,.. had to go over his head. No civic duty should cost someone their livelyhood.

Most states have gotten hardcore about making prospective jurors show up. I'm of the opinion that "civic duty" is a failed concept..
