Was wondering why someone with a college degree would be working for minimum wage? The whole idea of getting a college education is to get a higher paying job. The idea in the meme is bogus. Even if you did have to start out on minimum wage after graduation, would you really expect to stay at minimum wage?

Read the second part of my response. Do you expect to stay at minimum wage? If so, save the expense & don't go to college. But, even if you don't get a degree, you can work hard & learn for advancement then you can make more money. The best advice I ever received was "The more you learn, the more you earn."

i don't expect people working for minimum wage to stay there, most places reward years of service with things like raises and paid vacation.

a friend posted this on Facebook.
"I had a friend that went to school to be a mechanic, when he came back, he found 2 jobs in his field but was let go for bullshit reasons that I found were completely unethical, and he ended up working minimum wage jobs to try to pay off his student loans while still trying to find a job as a mechanic. I've also had a coworker that had a major in Biology, 10 years and she couldn't get a job in her profession, and ended up being a manager at Walmart."

That's the breaks sometimes, but with education & hard work, you won't have a minimum wage job long. Even if you cant find work in your field of study (which you should research before deciding a major) with education & a good work ethic people can get higher paying jobs. People with minimal skills & poor work ethics have no expectations of higher paying work. Just my 2 cents.

Why don't you start your own business, since you know everything? Show us all how its done and then you can start every employee at $27 an hour if you want. Go ahead, I dare you.

One could just as easily ask why people are so easily distracted by those offering shiny baubles. Arbitrary minimum wages only serve to increase the price whatever a business produces hurting those it was meant to help. Its proven over and over the inflation that follows a minimum wage increase only negates it, but not after jobs are lost altogether and companies learn how to get by with fewer employees. This college graduate needs to focus more on gaining work experience and focus on a promotion or look for other opportunities while gaining experience where they are.
