Advice is s noun, advise is a verb. If you give someone advice, you advise them.

I cry "prepost" - that's exactly what I was going to say, you just posted it first!

How about the difference between effect and affect? I can usually tell when I'm reading someone else's writing that they used the wrong one, but I often struggle when I'm writing to choose the correct one!

Affect is most often used as a verb meaning "to influence and change":
The verb effect means "to cause"

This is what happens when Progressives and teacher's unions run the schools for 50 years. The whole population gets dumbed down considerably.
