When I asked an imgflip user about the distribution of wealth in the USA, this is what he said:

Sounds like what's been happening the last 7 years.

I read the entire thread, and to me it actually sounded like the user was trying to establish some common ground between the two of you and you could quite possibly be taking it out of context. For those that haven't read it:

"The very same rich that you seem to despise (and some of them I can't help but despise as well) are the ones who I am referring to. They want us to be comfortable in our poverty. They will gladly bankrupt the country to pay us to stay poor... Think about it. I sense intelligence in you"

The way that I take that is, compared to some countries, our "poor" are pretty damn well off. Could it be better? Sure.

Another take on what he said, perhaps it's the old "bread and circuses", the ancient Roman way of controlling the masses. Give the unwashed poor just enough that they don't rise up and overthrow those in power (from whichever party, doesn't matter).

Not trying to start a flame war, just an intelligent conversation, but I'll take either.

To me, the have-nots dis-proportionally despise the haves. And really, if the rich want to bankrupt the country, what good will their wealth be? Their cash will rated extremely weak against the world market value and then we'll end up in hyper-inflation. Seems like an oxymoron statement to me.

Interesting thought on "bread and circuses" ... some day, (pie-in-the-sky thought) we will have a country FOR the people, BY the people.

I would agree with that accept that he would say patronizing things like "I sense intelligence in you" or "You have been hijacked by the liberal masses. You're smarter then that!". If he wanted a middle ground, he wouldn't have tried to convince me to see his way.
