Star Wars is SUPPOSED TO BE soap opera-ey. And if you don't like that style, you don't like SW.
That's why i say what I do about SW fans as opposed to Sci Fi fans.
What "unnecessary characters"? And how did the OT not have "unnecessary characters? What did Nein Nunb add to ROTJ that Dexter Jettster didn't to AOTC for example?
And no again, TFA is in no way better than any of the prequels. The prequels are each individually original and have great stories and plots while TFA is just a rip off of everything that made the first 6 films great. But, mainly of ANH.
TFA is almost a direct copy of ANH. The actors they chose are fine, but the dialogue, score, and designs were all horrible and nothing like the previous 6 SW film.
There's been a campaign to bash Lucas and get him out of the way since the SE came out but especially after the prequels, and you seem to be a victim of it. I feel bad for people who only like PARTS of SW like you. :{
