I hear ya there... after working for years in large call centers, I always thought it would be interesting to staff one that way. I know I'm going to hell for that.

Not at all, a natural reaction. I was at a 9-1-1 center in December and in between calls it sounded like the calltakers had tourettes, it was out of control. I know that it's a stressful job, but damn, I'd be worried that I was going to pick up a live call in mid swears!

Some years back when I played WoW we had a guildie who worked in a 911 center and played between calls. He would sometimes disappear for 5, 10, 30 minutes or more and then just pick up where he left off without missing a beat. I never could figure out how he could do that.

Yes, the good ones turn it on and off really quickly, it's amazing. Hats off to them!
