Welfare was designed to be a short term relief. Not a life style

Yeah, in my state "temporary assistance" was defined as 60 weeks. That's over a year. I'm sorry, it doesn't take that long to get a job. McDonald's and gas stations are always hiring, you could have a job in 2 weeks tops.

They ended up reducing the number of weeks...not by much...but all the people living off 'temporary assistance' pitched a fit because it meant they have to do more work to keep their welfare.

i'm sorry but i gotta say, living in the state with the highest unemployment rate of my country, it actually can be that difficult to find work. there are all kinds of restrictive factors

But would it still really take over a year to get at least a basic job to help you provide for yourself? What kind of restrictive factors do you encounter?

poor public transport and no vehicle, good grades from another country, 100s of people applying for jobs, not much general work experience (previous positions were technical or very specific). after applying to 30+ jobs a month, getting maybe 5 responses that weren't automated i would get an interview every 3-4 months. finally i have a nightfill casual position with one of my personal key features being i don't have a life so i can work with minimal notice

Dang. What region is this in? Over here our problem is we have plenty of jobs and they are easy to get. People often choose not to because it's just as easy to get welfare and then you don't have to spend your time working.

Senior Bush stated it best when introducing "workfare," he said that welfare was originally intended to be a hand-up instead of a hand-out, and not intended to be a legacy to be handed down from one generation to the next.

In the civilian world, I work in the financial industry, specifically dealing with systems processing financial transactions. You are correct all money exists as a digital number. The federal reserve is just a master server that passes the numbers back and forth. You don't print money, you just push a button and presto...money.
