I make memes all the time and debate submitting because it just seems to obvious that someone HAS to have done it before, but I just haven't seen it.

Obvious reposts are awful.

The reason why people upvote reposts is because they are good memes, and people enjoy them. There's nothing wrong with reposting memes, and there's no reason why anyone shouldn't.

Oh I know Socco... I'm just teasing, as much as teasing anything else. I don't believe it's at all plausible to track every submission and check for such things. In fact, i think another definition of saying, "repost" means to say that person has heard it before. Again, if anyone does repost, brace for a "repost" response. Why would someone take it to heart is my only misunderstanding.

I don't know why I take it to heart. I've wondered that too.

But being annoyed by something and taking something to heart aren't always the same thing. When people post advertising, malicious troll comments or spam etc on memes, you don't necessarily take it to heart, but you don't like it either.

Maybe it goes by your general mood at the time? Idk, but I would say that's what the vote function is for.

That would go for the whiners, too. Instead of throwing their tantrums when a repost gets to the front page, they should just use the downvote button like everyone else to keep the memes from getting there.

I like imgflip. When you care about something, it's normal to want to do what you can to protect it from influences that detract from it.

However, you're probably right to let me know that I shouldn't expect anyone to change their behavior based on what I say. As you say - I'm not special.

It's not in the spirit of creativity the founders wanted. So repost....just be prepared for people to get called out on 8th and downvoted.

It's interesting how you're using language like "called out on" as if the practice of reposting is wrong.

The very guidelines you've just cut and pasted show that it isn't wrong. A repost and an obvious repost are not the same thing.

If someone reposts a meme that isn't an obvious repost, they haven't done anything wrong, and there's nothing for them to get "called out on."

I'm not buying the "spirit of creativity the founders wanted" line either. It's a rhetorical flourish that you made up to fill the gap when you realized the Submission Guidelines don't directly address the issue of whether it's acceptable to repost memes or not.

Right or wrong people will get called out on it. Just like I get called out on being liberal on here. And like I call out conservative idiocy. It's an open forum dude. Get over yourself.

No and you're the first repost whiner whiner I've told that to. Dude, you're pissing in the wind. People comment whatever they want on here. Deal with it. Ignore it. Comment on it. Whatever. But you're going to have a bad time if you think you're going to stop anything. You're not special.

Giving simple and reasonable instructions (e.g. "stop whining") to whiners doesn't make me a whiner. Nor does making fun of them.

I'd love to see imgflip get to the point where the community treat repost whiners the same way they treat spammers and trolls.

You won't see it become what you said because a majority of people don't like reposts. Just like it seems a majority of people on here are very conservative and make right wing memes. I'd like to see those gone and imgflip would beblike b it was 3 years ago. But I doubt it will happen.

But you know what? Who cares really? It's a friggin meme site. It doesn't matter.

Part of maintaining an open forum is the whole community standing against those who want to block the flow of the open forum, or make it unpleasant for others (e.g. spammers, trolls). Repost whiners are in that category.

So are all the right wing conservatives in my opinion. But oh well. That's just MY opinion right? They downvote my memes (non political ones) and continue to make memes I find unpleasant.

Sometimes the rare liberal on here stands up and confronts them. Mostly not. Again...oh well.
