Was it a novel before or after the movie was released in theaters?

Written by George Lucas and some other guy in 1975 published in 1976 a year before the movie release

Cool! I saw it in a second hand bookshop once and just assumed he wrote it (or was ghost-written for him) as publicity after the movie. Never knew it came out before the movie.

The other guy is Alan Dean Foster...He also came back to do the novelisation of Episode 7 which is coming out tomorrow to the best of my knowledge :-))
