I don't think anyone is "worried" about the mental health check per se. People are worried that it will add an expensive and unhelpful level of bureaucracy. If it is someone who is not already being treated for a mental health issue. They can easily fake it for a few doctors visits (I did it for years before I finnaly let the doctor treat me for depression).
There is also medical privacy issues. And if you change the law so that anything other than involuntary commission get counted, you may create a situation where those with mental health issues become less likely to seek help.

Additionally,.. too much room for abuse. Your neighbor might get pissed because your dog crapped in his yard, and start making calls to authorities that you "act crazy",.. now tbe sheriffs department is at your house to seize arms,.. in the name of public safety. If someone is an obvious sociopath,.. that different. This asdministration hasnt got anything right,.. and evident by all the lies and scandals, IRS, Fast and Furious, Bengahzi to name a few,.. shows they cant betrusted with this task.
