The content of this meme is very very close to me, and it is my position that the only ones who should have any say in these matters are the one affected by it. The SecDef's decision comes at a heavy price. As much as I would love to go into the exact details, this isn't the place for it. Free speech is under grave attack. I'm sure you've already seen Loretta Lynch's remark yesterday about prosecuting anti-muslim rhetoric. Moving on before we all get in trouble...

No, totally agree. I watched CSPAN last night covering women in combat and the USMC's stance in particular. I wanted to puke. I'm old enough that I was serving when "Don't ask, don't tell" was implemented. Like you said, it doesn't affect them. I doubt that Malia and Sasha will run out to become 0311s anytime soon. But, they're making points with one group or another. Don't be afraid to exercise your first amendment rights, you've earned it.

Ok, I'll spill a bit before I burst. I was so livid when I first heard this....we'll just say it wasn't pretty. Repealing "don't ask, don't tell" and now women in combat totally strips away the Marine Corps most basic tenant: uniformity. That uniformity is necessary for ensuring total force cohesion. One mind, one fight. It was a crucial component to the Marine Corps for 236 years, and I would say one of the reasons battles were never lost once. Infantry units and gays don't mix. They are awkward to be around. They complain and it causes problems. Add women and that compounds the problem exponentially, especially because of the added sexual component. No civilian and most of the non-infantry military have any concept of the operational environment. It will destroy camaraderie, no question. The future is uncertain, and you can't win on the battlefield when you are losing at home.

Well put. They think that they have problems with sexual assault in the military now? (Which I think the stats may be overblown, but I've been retired 11 years now.) What do they think will happen on a float or out in the boonies? And the flip side is chivalry. The 99.9% of Marines that are not sexual predators are going to sacrifice themselves and possibly there units to protect a woman.
