COLUMBUS was warmly welcomed and noted in his diary that the friendly natives might make good slaves. To the influx of Europeans that followed the native people were weird, primitive, backwards, heathens. I can fully understand why your ancestors wanted to escape that. What I don't understand is the way they were welcomed, fed, taught what to plant, what was edible, and how to rotate crops and then turned it around to where you can even find in the old history books that they encountered blood thirsty savages and that we carried diseases. Is it not strange to you how they contradicted that with their thanksgiving story that also went along so kids could cut the fake paper feathers and run around slapping their mouths to play at war cries? The point being that some tribes enslaved, some tribes were more vicious some tribes hunted and killed others as scouts for the government. Some is some, not all. I do believe that we all originated in the same area, we are all human beings imperfect from this planet. Yet a country founded on freedom of religion only allowed natives that freedom in 1976. If you actually have any interest research current conditions and also look into a program started by Bush in Texas that had Native children being used as lab rats for pharmaceutical companies, research the Lakota recent ruling that puts a stop to it on their children. Research the water pollution and battles around reservations and how all benefits are based on remaining on the reservation. So when you tell an Urban Native of all we get, we scoff, I have loans for my education. No free college and yes once back to work will pay full taxes.

I see the meme differently. I'm of mostly Irish descent.. the irish were common indentured servants.. slaves. At one time 80-90% of white anglos in America were enslaved that way. I don't carry a chip on my shoulder about it though. There is a lot of white guilt in this country.. and I have never seen my white privilege. You don't see because your life is a normal amount of fair and unfair. I can only relate my personal experience. My mom was told to leave school in the tenth grade when it was no longer legally required for her to be there. When she married my dad (airforce white) he was really good to her and fun when he took her home to PA he became ashamed, blamed her for lacking status in the church for having to associate with black brothers due to the whites not wanting her near their wives. Wishing out loud about should have married a decent white woman that she ruined his life and she wanted to go but he said he would get the kids because she is Indian. Did not say one word in her defense when a doctor at the ER Said not to bring her there again because Indians carry disease. My personal experience the local tribe and the farmers had issues over water rights. I was not a member yet my sister was told at JCpenny upon applying for a job that she could apply when the farmers got their water. My cousin at age thirteen left her home with a girl that called her sis, who took her to a vehicle with two white men she fought to not get in the vehicles this was witness by one of our classmates. Brutally Raped and Murdered tortured according to the detective. These men and the women got off despite blood and hair in their trunk, despite that one wrote a 30 page confession, despite that the woman testified against for immunity, despite my classmates eyewitness testimony. The only thing of importance to the local paper was her blood alcohol level. Attending the trial my family were treated like criminals warned not to threaten or even look at the accused's family. As an adult I was out having a few drinks, I ran into another Native women that did not like me, she punched me in the face, we fought I was on top, her six foot four nephew grabbed me and held me while she beat me unconscious. The police refused to do anything because I had alcohol in my system, I was just a drunk Indian deserving of this assault.

I've never experienced that, in fact there is supposed to be tribal preferences at tribal offices yet I've lost out on quite a few positions to non natives, but I have heard that some states are very different when it comes to equal opportunity, so I will trust in your experience and understand why you feel the way you do. I'm in Georgia... and I can tell you that blacks or Mexicans will win here if everything else equal. I have to be on my game. I sell myself.. self employed. My experience is everything.. but I am seriously disadvantaged as a white guy.

I'm in Oregon, where I grew up, the population was mostly Caucasian & Native American, as a teen the Hispanic or Latino population increased several fold. There is a unity among all Spanish speaking communities at least when it come to political issues. Native Americans still cling to tribes which I think it is important to preserve tribal identity but it's time to support one another, find that unity. Even stranger to me is that Mexicans so thoroughly discarded their tribal affiliations that most do not even know or admit to ever having had any. They are not all Spaniards. Also the traditional Mexican culture they share was it developed fully after Spanish occupation? In the interest of fairness I do think that all of our children should be taught 2 languages starting in grade school. Europeans tend to look down on us for only speaking the one. I do at times resent being passed over for a job because I do not speak Spanish, I took 2 years of it but if you don't converse daily, you tend to forget. I was also quite upset when my son who is autistic was being teased in Spanish, he began to feel like everytime the other students spoke Spanish that it was to talk about him. He would yell speak English, then he started to get bullied for being racist. Was it really so hard to comprehend that a person having trouble processing stimulus might develop a trigger when he can't understand what is being said?

My Spanish is decent,.. army sent me language school.. my daughter is almost fluent.. 6 years of school. I agree in learning another language. . I don't believe schools should make an exception for illegal immigrants and set up special Spanish language schools only. By the way I am familiar with autism, my neighbor has an autistic child. And I am seriously against any bullying. I am also a firm believer that when someone migrates to America, they should consider themselves an American first. there is too much division in this country where people who immigrated do not care to immerse in American culture, even though that is the reason they claim to come here. I have seen Mexican flags being raised over an American flag. As a veteran and an immigrant myself, I do not believe in this.

Why would I not like white people? I'm half, I love my father & stepmother, I get the pressure he faced as half of a mixed marriage. My children are perceived white as are my grandchildren. It's not dirty laundry, it's injustice, knowing that your word is less valuable as is your life. I don't know, I started this account because I needed to laugh and hoped maybe I could do the same for others. I am aware of what is happening around me, that there is a resurgence of hate flowing out towards any that suggest it might be time to make equality among men a reality rather than a facade. The pure audacity to tell us that our ancestors were just as evil as those that hunted, murdered, and took all that made their lives worth living. Our history was not taught and your knowledge happens to be severely lacking. As I mentioned before the majority of North American tribes lived peacefully. We learned of the tribes that raided other villages and scouted for the ones seeking to hunt our ancestors in hiding, your attempt to generalize all in entirety as evil doers did not go unnoticed. The past cannot be changed but it is not up to you to tell these nations to get over it. There are still multitudes of injustices happening at this time, our children have the highest rate of suicides in the nation, our females are targeted the missing and murdered among our sisters is staggering with investigations or convictions practically non existent. Yes there is good and evil in every faction of humanity, that does not give you the right to dismiss our grief or our struggles as untrue just because you have closed your eyes to reality, stomp your feet and shout about how you don't see any of it, or worse, that we deserved it, just as surely as we deserve any injustice we face currently.
