I'm a straight white christian male (sorta christian, I don't go to church a lot) so whenever someone sees me I can tell if they're liberal or conservative by the face they give me.

Ain't that the truth...good god if this was true how well off would I be instead of bumming off my family trying to make ends meet.

Reminder :) just getting by in America is being a lot more well off than middle or upper-middle class in many other countries, like mine...

Better than their middle and upper? Mmm. I don't know about that. I'd agree with poor in America is better off than their poor (for the moment). But some of us (not on the big brother dole) work our behinds off and still do without. No complaints. We are happy and grateful for everything we have. Just want to keep things in perspective. We've done without heat in 20* weather for two winters. No heat in house or car ... and I was delivering pizzas ... the warmest I was that winter was standing next to the ovens. We've done without Christmas (seems small unless you have young kids), we've made $30 last for a weeks worth of groceries ... things like this. There are plenty of hard working people out there busting their behinds and not getting anywhere and others who sit around with government checks and complain about all their free stuff. (people of all colors do that)
But it is a bit much to hear about white privilege from people (of all colors) who are dressed better than we are and holding the newest iphones etc. lol

Maybe not better than upper but very possibly better than upper-middle. I've seen both - even the cheapest apartment complexes usually have swimming pools and tennis courts, sometimes gyms, which is a complete luxury here, as are dryers and dishwashers, central heating, and so much more :) Not many people can afford more than 1 or 2 pairs of jeans or shoes, and we pay more for no-names and knock-offs than you pay for brand name clothes. Same with electronics. Taxes are high as f*ck and we don't get much for them - cops say they don't give a damn unless you're being murdered, roads are in a desperate condition, traffic signals often don't work. Even if you live in a trailer park then your kids get to go to schools and you get to go to grocery stores and shopping malls etc that are actually clean and maintained without broken windows or doors that don't work. I could probably go on forever :) I know it isn't easy being poor anywhere, but there's still a lot you take for granted when living in the US (as did I when I was there).

..and we still have it a lot better than in Russia or India, most of China, South America, not to mention Africa ...quote from Forbes - "The Average US Welfare Payment Puts You In The Top 20% Of All Income Earners"

Well, you make some really good points. And you would likely know more than I would about these things then. We will just agree that being poor is difficult and somewhat relative. :-D More relative for some than others ;-)
I can tell you that when I was delivering pizzas in my freezing cold car (and going home to my freezing cold house) I would go to houses in poor neighborhoods that I KNOW people were receiving government assistance for their food and rent and very likely none of them (or very few of them) were working. I would stand on their porches in my three shirts, a sweater, coat and two pair of socks lol (seriously) shivering my ass off, all but cuddling their pizzas lol and they would open the door and the heat would ROLL OUT. They would be wearing short sleeves and ... obviously eating delivery pizzas. None of which we could afford. I couldn't afford the very pizzas I was delivering lol I took home the old stale ones lol. Yeah, it used to bother me a lot. :-) But, there is no sense in letting it get too deeply into you. Doesn't hurt them one bit lol They had no idea what my experience was. They surely assumed that mine was like theirs or better. Likely they didn't give it a second thought.
Where are you living?

Yea it really sucks to see people that don't do anything doing a lot better than you :D but guess that's life - we're in the situations we are to learn from them, and I like heating my wood-burning furnace every day more than sitting in an office. Done that too, used to be some IBM-certified IT specialist and all that crap :) I'm in Estonia, we like to show tourists the richest parts of our capital and our most successful people but that doesn't really reflect what's going on :) And you? How cold does it get, how bad is it with no heating?

Oh well. You may laugh at our temps then lol It was in the 20s and 30 those years. Our cold months are from about November to March. We tried the fireplaces but our house is leaky so it smoked too much. We did kerosene heaters ... I do not recommend those for anyone who likes living. We would be so cold but then think ... mmm turn them off at night so we can wake up in the morning alive lol Our walls are still covered in black in parts from back then lol Even with the heaters it was so cold that when you woke up you were pissed off just being awake lol But as you said, we learn. I am glad for the experience because ... yes, you learn. For instance... short of natural disaster (knock wood) that will not be happening again. ;-) Heat ... it's important. Air conditioning in the summer is nice but heat ... yep. Necessity. Food .. .also important :-D There is a great quote that says "When the pain of where you are is greater than the fear of where you are going, you'll move." SO true lol THAT is what makes people get out and work. And if you can't find a job you make a job.
Unless you learn the real value of something you just do not know. This is why I do not approve of government assistance other than emergency measures and those should be for the minimums. Necessity is the mother of invention.
I have to admit, I had to google Estonia. I had never heard of it before. Other than the cold temps it looks like a slice of heaven. :-) You must love it there.

That's a really good quote, I'll be sure to remember that one. Yea it's pretty nice here :) cold af and most people are angry and aggressive (at least passively), poverty all around, but we've got our own private patch of woods where I can go whenever I like, clean water from our own well, wild animals literally pressing in through the back gate, can't say it's too bad :) Sure sounds like you know the value of a heated house extremely well now :D sounds pretty tough.

Also, a dishwasher does not a rich man make ;-) We are consumed BY our "things" in America. :-) They are a snare more than a help. Be careful not to count your blessings as burdens. ;-)

White privilege is a term for societal privileges that benefit white people in Western countries beyond what is commonly experienced by non-white people under the same social, political, or economic circumstances. You get better treatment in general. No one suspects you're going to do anything, while if you were black they might. Racism towards another person when you're applying for a job would help YOU, but that's not white privilege.

it actually doesn't exist, it's RICH privilege being guised as "white" privilege. Only the rich experience these things and they most certainly do NOT represent the majority in ANY way shape or form of "whites"

Mm hmm. Money, influence, and occupation. Marion Barry, OJ, Michael Vick, I rest my case lol
There are definitely things wrong with American values. And there HAS been white privilege in the past. But we are on a whole other playing field now. Those ideas no longer apply. People who want to hang on to them are happy complainers.

'Cept Asians, and race quotas, and AA.

People who like to complain about privilege have never truly been down. Because. If they had, they'd be quieter and working. And neither have their parents. Because if they had, their kids would be appreciative for what they have and would be working.
This is what suffering does ... regardless of color (color is a crock). If there isn't a place in your life where this has happened ... count your blessings and shush. If it has happened, you already are.
