The 1998 agreement between the IRA and the British government was what started to put an end to the violent conflict. But at the bottom of it the IRA lost the will to fight. That can happen when the issues that drive the fight are political rather than religious.

Also remember, more civilians were killed by Muslim hijackers in two hours on September 11th than in the 36 years of sectarian conflict in Northern Ireland.

Yesterday's enemy is today's friend, although, to be fair, the current approach is more more along the lines of yesterday's friend is today's enemy, or even today's friend is funding today's enemies.

The latest in a long line of trying to manipulate other nations in the 'national interest'. You'd think Folks would have learned by now that this is not only incredibly short sighted (probably something to do with terms of office), buy doesn't exactly endear one to the rest of the world.
