Chov: typical. Impossible it is to put every point of interest into a meme. I was raised Christian. After a certain point I realized several things. One, the same passages were being used year after year & the Bible wasn't being taught in full, nor accurately.
Two, people do a LOT of interpreting. A lot! So much so that most of how I've heard people describe God is nothing like he is in the Bible. Now you want to assign a more comfortable description to evil as it applies to God.
Three, so many contridictions and inconsistencies. So many.

After taking the time to thoroughly study the bible, I saw God as the embodiment of every quality I despise in man. Some people, like socrates there, are okay with that, justify it, still claim to love and follow that representation. I however, expect God to be better than man, so...pass. The law I live by is kindness - threat others the way I want to be treated, be honest, and avoid judging people. Simple.

I also decided to investigate the history surrounding the bible. No small undertaking mind you, and I'm not done to my satisfaction, but it doesn't take much to realize how faulty the Jewish concept of God is, how much reinterpretation of the text has happened, or figure out that some biblical stories were borrowed from other cultures and became reinterpreted as biblical lessons.

The simple fact that this God, claiming to be the one true god, shows up so late in human history should be enough to make people think. But, they don't. I feel that God's law should be beyond question or misinterpretation and the Bible is far from that, with all it's different versions and different denominations. Never mind how it's practice has been completely mutilated by the Catholic church. They have people thinking it's okay to do things that completely defy biblical law - but people don't know it because they don't read the actual bible & they put more trust in the misguidance of men who give themselves authority, than the god they claim to believe in.

The very idea of God having total control over everything defies the fact of free will. You can't have both. The reality is there has been nearly nonstop conflict and war since the birth of the Abrahamic faiths. The three have been the reason for innumerable lives lost, division of families, forced conversions, cultures decimated, etc. I see no good in that. It's always been a political tool. Abrahamic religions, to me, seem to be the root of all evil. I can't do it.

The Bible: a book that was written years after the event happened by people who weren't there and/or after the deaths of the prophets who said that God said.

Which eventually needed to be standardized because there were so many versions even back then. Let's try to translate these dead languages and reinterpret these different bibles and make something that works. Wait, are these notes in the margin supposed to go in? Idk. They sound good, so why not.

These books, we don't need to include them. We'll just keep those to ourselves.

It amazes me how people take any text that's been through all of that as the literal word of God, let alone worship a God who tells us to kill for him. But, hey, whatever makes you sleep well. Right?

Just like taking one random sentence out of "Hound of the Baskervilles" or "Chicago Tribune", taking a single verse out of context will make it confusing. Isaiah is talking about God rewarding Israel for obedience and punishing Israel for disobedience. The "evil" doesn't mean He goes around creating moral evil (that isn't in God's character); it is evil as in unpleasant, distressful punishment. :)

Asks a good question. Think about it. What would Lord Jesus say about that verse ?Jesus counted all of the Old Testament as relevant to his teachings of course. Christ came to destroy Satan. of course.. this is for the experts .I cannot comprehend.....

When God brings bad events to pass, he does so for good purposes. His total control over all events, both bad and good, is a comfort to those who know that he is good.
