Our opinion really does matter to politicians. This is an inevitable consequence of democracy and free elections. If a party makes stupid decisions that no one agrees with, they won't get voted in next time around.

California approved a high speed train rail that the people of California didn't want. Presidents use executive action to pass laws that Congress AND the people are against... I understand your point, and admit that is the case, sometimes. But the next candidate is always someone that the political party approves, someone that will make the same decisions, against the will of the folks they "represent."

77 has a point, that nuclear deal with Iran went through even though I heard something like 54% of Americans were against in when polled.
