I have a Macedonian mate who finds the use of 'FYROM' very offensive

It's simple:
Macedonia = Greece
FYROM = Bulgaria

Well no - true the Greeks claim everything Maco (Alex the Great, Star of Vergina, etc.) but they are not Greek. Bulgaria has nothing to do with Yugoslavia apart from the fact they both used to be communist.

Sorry but even with me living in Texas, Lamp has a point. I think that econfederate flag has some pretty bad shit it represented and lets not forget that the kkk were ex confederate. I know there are two big sides to it, but it seems if somebody doesn't like the flag, their immediately bashed as if they are stupid which shows hostility which the hostility in itself proves a point.

In the 40s and 50s the gov. gave a huge loan to the KKK to march and wave the Amercian flag. The people in the south and people from the north march with MLK to D.C. So what's the argument here, again? "Honest" Abe was a racist, he send over 400 blacks to Hatiti and was going to send the rest to central America, but he was assiassated.Since the North won, the natives had to move west of Mississippi. Only a very few stayed in the south. But you know the North did won.

The people being bashed arent being bashed because they dont like the flag per se, its because some americans proudly fly that flag and now since some loser maniac posed in a few pictures w the flag, they wanna get rid of the flag altogether, like that would even work. Its a matter of freedom to be allowed to represent whatever you want without fear of legal repercussion. Like any flag, it has difference in meaning to all, so where do we draw the line on taking offense to things? Every country has its dark history behind it

From what I've heard from my black friends...they were always offended by people that flew the flag over their own property. I think the thing that shines the light on this situation was the fact that the media covered the fact of the flag. Because of the shooting, people then learned that a government building was flying this flag (that did fight against the USA (Star-Spangled Banner)) at full mast. From what I've heard from all of my liberal colleagues, they aren't against people flying the flag on their personal properties per se... but are frustrated that the state government (that of which is supposed to stand for the people) is flying the flag that represents a time of racism.

Exactly! I think around where I live, people would be pretty nervous to fight against that flag. And I thought there was more to it and I was right. I didnt know NC flew the confederate flag as high as the us one! That shows how ignorant people can be! I get that they don't trust the media, I don't really either, but at the same time, it is an issue that NC does that. Freaking rediculous. I understand texas flag flying as high as the us one I Geuss, living in TX can't argue, but flying the confed flag the same hite sounds a little suspicious

I think the media jumps on this stuff for a few weeks, gets everyone worked up and then moves on to the next shark bite story. Most of the "news" stations don't cover racial problems in the country in an honest way. They only make things worse. Every ten years or so the flag issue comes up then goes away again and it seem it's always people from other states that make the most fuss about it.

Well, the problem is being addressed in many states, but I do agree, the problem will never be solved
