The spider spends its entire life in the web. The fly now trapped in the web spent the greater part of its life in freedom. So who indeed is the prisoner, the fly or the spider?

The spider chooses to stay there by choice. The same way humans choose to live in their houses.

Well no, a prisoner by definition is someone who goes to prison for committing a crime or waiting for their trial.

The definition of prisoner is anyone held captive against their will, when you boil it down... But it can also be someone who is stuck someplace whether it be their will or otherwise. The Spider is forced to stay on his web for sustinence, so the spider is a captive to its own nature.

The fly at least experienced freedom in its lifetime whereas the spider has not, making it as much a prisoner as the (doomed) fly.

The spider has not committed a crime though.
