It was a BBC show called, UFO. It started in 1970, and I think ran for a total of 3 years. The premise was that there was a multi-national, super secret organization, called S.H.A.D.O., which was formed to fight off an evil invasion force from another planet. Even better, they were headquartered underneath a British movie studio. So by day the head of SHADO made movies, and at night he fought the bad guys. It was created by Gerry & Silvia Anderson, of Super-Marionation, and "Space: 1999" fame. BTW, her name escapes me right now, but Benedict Cumberbatch's mother was a regular on the show. She played Col. Virginia Lake.
