It doesn't seem like people would only downvote memes if they was both good and they didn't understand. If they don't understand then they can't tell if it's good or not

Its definitely had a different meaning than it used to. When two teams were playing a game, and one team won, that made them the winner. The other team was then the loser, because they lost the game. I'm pretty sure that the word has been transformed into a (poor) insult. Same thing with the words cool and ass; they didn't have those meanings before, but now they do.
