People worship it like it is a holy thing. It is not. It is a library of history, poetry, stories, and prophecy. Another error people make is to act like what it said then means the same thing today, and in many cases, it doesn't. Numbers were treated differently then, and now we take them literally, then they had symbolic meaning and weren't meant to be literal, for example. So you make a good point. John the Apostle said the Word was Jesus, and Jesus said the Scriptures were what they read in the old Testament. And Jesus even used Scripture by changing it up in his stories to make a new point.
