Hmm, let me see, it has a lunatic fringe made up of old angry white men who are as stupid as they are nasty but presumably most of the followers aren't like that...yep sounds like a religion to me. (Don't get me wrong, I love religion but I can't stand extremists of any kind.)

Peer Review.
Peer reviewed articles are used in the absence of empirical evidence. empirical evidence is knowledge acquired by one or more of the five senses.
Peer review is not much more butt sniffing that dogs do. it is a philosophy and has all the tenets of a religion. Not rooted in any empirical evidence, it's rather ,theory dependant presumptions ,that violate the very fundaments of the scientific method, which is neutral arbitration .

Like what? If your going as far back as the origin of the universe..most scientists would admit they don't know definitively but can guess scientifically given known data. Basically extrapolation Based on emperical data Which has been proven and accepted by peers. When anything "unknown" is presented this is the basic response from the scientific/atheistic/agnostic/logical communities. Now...religious people simply brush off the notion of science explaining or attempting to guess with an educated notion but would rather claim an answer based on faith. With not data to even extrapolate that conclusion. There is no need for any data...proof...or logic if you simply have "faith". which is the same "faith" that extremists of any religion hold onto when they kill or risk being killed for their religions. Because, you know, they're going to a majestic place in the clouds to live happily into eternity.
