The bible has had quite a good effect in much of American history, like helping free the slaves. Where do you get your info if you don't read it? You believe the media, the Internet, your profs, your friends who haven't read it? At least get the other side of it. I know the cliches about the crusades, the inquisition, crooked televangelists, etc. The bible is an integral part of history & you might want to know what it really says, on balance. That is not shoving it down your throat, it's called education.

The Bible condones slavery

No. Read uncle Tom's Cabin for a look at what The bible says about slavery. It's a refreshing book & did a lot to end slavery in the United States.

People don't want religion shoved down their throats when the school probably accepts scientific theories with evidence

How is reading a Bible shoving religion down someone's throat?

They don't want to hear about it, i was exaggerating but i don't want to hear about something that to me sounds completely illogical. For example I'm sure you wouldn't want a scientist going on and on about evoloution.

I would agree w/ you to an extent, if the child were reading it out loud to other classmates... if it is a case where he just wants to bring it to read on his own then I have a real problem with that... and at this point I am used to hearing theories presented as facts... I listen and take note of what is being said and treat the teachers and profs with respect....

The bible does not explicitly say that God did not use evolution. It does say that he put the spark of consciousness in mankind at some point. I still have not heard anyone show me why it is unscientific--but if you already aren't open then by definition it's anti- scientific. If you don't to read it or hear about it, then it's foolish. Yet why do my kids have to hear that he does not exist in public schools? I mean with scientific dogma. Dogma from any side is not all true.

But doesn't the Bible say in 7 days all of creation was made and evolution says it took billions of years for us too get this far

I believe in the Bible not because it has proof of its truth (which it does) but because there is no proof that can prove it is not true
