Phase 1: The Acorn Obsession
Phase 1 (The Scurry Inception) is where the brain-scramble officially begins. Triggered by over-reading the lore or getting startled by the 2009 theater debut of the characters, the patient starts acting like an absolute weirdo. They stop talking like a normal human and instead start frantically writing "Scrat," "Scratte," and "Acorn" over every notebook, wall, or scrap of paper they can find. They develop a massive fixation on standard oak tree acorns, viewing them as legendary, divine artifacts, and they refuse to eat anything else.
Phase 2: Going Full Rodent
Once a patient clears Phase 1, Phase 2 (The Scuttle Phase) kicks in, and things get a bit ridiculous. The patient completely gives up on walking like a normal human, opting instead to scurry around on all fours at high speeds. Their vocabulary shrinks down to frantic sniffs, dramatic gasps, and high-pitched chattering. If you drop a set of car keys, they won't pick them up—they will try to bury them under the living room rug, fully convinced it’s a prized winter stash.
Phase 3: Total Brain Scramble
Phase 3 (The Unhinged Era) is where the behavior gets genuinely embarrassing and weird. The patient loses all sense of dignity. They might spend six hours crying over a drawing of an acorn or trying to aggressively flirt with a furry gray couch cushion that vaguely resembles Scratte. Their room becomes a chaotic mess of hidden snacks and weird doodles, and trying to hold a normal conversation with them is totally out of the question.
Phase 4: Scurry and Destroy
By Phase 4 (The Menace Phase), the patient actually becomes a hazard to the neighborhood. They get incredibly defensive about their "stash" and will hiss or swipe at anyone who gets too close to their pile of stolen walnuts. Driven by pure adrenaline, they develop the bizarre ability to climb up curtains, leap off bookshelves, and cause total chaos in local grocery store produce aisles. They are fast, loud, and entirely out of control.
Phase 5: The Final Squeak
Phase 5 (Game Over) is the unfortunate end of the line. The human brain and body simply weren't built to run on 100% cartoon squirrel energy forever. The patient becomes completely exhausted, permanently frazzled, and entirely disconnected from reality. Since they can't be reasoned with and are in a constant state of panic over a fictional ice age, the medical team has to make the tough, sad call to quietly and humanely put them to sleep
