It's not even empathy, it's the bigotry that someone from another country is automatically above the native population in their intentions and how any negative action was actually just some sort of misunderstanding through cultural differences.
Pair that with the delusion that everyone everywhere in the world is inexplicably in a conflict zone and simultaneously on a government list for arrest and you've got liberalism
