What is cruel about a public execution of a guilty man?

Nothing is cruel

Wimps love to think they can be rehabilitated and be fine upstanding members of society

People that aren’t wimps know that the sooner the criminal is eliminated, the better society will be

Some of the thinking about the death penalty in general can be found here: https://web.archive.org/web/20111229094934/https://www.oyez.org/cases/1970-1979/1971/1971_69_5003

I'll leave it to you to research why a public execution might have additional aspects of the cruel and unusual.

“Some of the thinking”

IOW opinions by someone that I neither know or respect.

Those opinions are from the US Supreme Court: whatever your feelings about them, you will probably recognize that they know more about US Law than either of us.

Are any of them still on the bench

Does that matter? Previous Supreme Court Justices also studied the law for years.

And we all know there has never been a reversal of a SC ruling, right?

Well, since you, in your deep Constitutional scholarship, feel that the Supreme Court was mistaken about cruel and unusual punishment, naturally it ought to be reversed?
