My dad is very left wing and a doctor and has outright gotten pissed at me when i was homophobic. (I got indoctrinated by christian stepdad and was super homophobic before figuring stuff out) And i still haven’t really fully come out to him. It can be a pretty awkward thing to admit and sometimes isn’t even necessary so just do it if you feel comfortable or feel like you need to do it
