Someone yesterday said I am an anime/ manga veteran so i decided to share some advice that I learned along the way throughout my own journey. 1) Real life matters like work, education, and family matters always takes priority over reading and watching manga and anime. If you won't accept this then stop reading and watching right now and start growing up! 2) Popular does not always equal good. 3) Personal tastes, likes, and dislikes affect 2) and also 5). 4) Weekly jump series are not the end all of anime/manga. Always try to expand your horizons to the obscure anime and manga. 5) When reviewing anime/manga online never be a shit poster or reddit user about it. 6) Seriously,5); 7) as a general rule, shonen subs are better than shonen dubs in anime so do your ear drums a favor and properly choose. 8) when reading or watching from 'unofficial' anime/manga websites avoid sites that have a paywall to view content and spread the word to others about this kind of thing. 9) When seeing something in anime/manga that is so mind blowing disturbing or completely and utterly fooked up in some by anyone's standards just keep these two words in mind, "It's Japan." and leave it at that. 10) Internet rules 34 and 35 exist and there's nothing we can do about it. so either deal with it or ignore it as much as possible. 11) Learn patience because that anime/manga you like may take forever to release new episodes/chapters. Prime Example - Black Lagoon. 12) as you get older you may find yourself not enjoying the types of anime/manga you used to. There's no shame in that. Tastes and preferences tend to change over time. 13) Try to stick with the original source as much as possible because adaptations tend to leave things out or change things that go against the original intent of the author and story. 14) don't be afraid to take a long break from watching/reading anime/manga. It's better than being burned out from the whole thing. 15) Anime opening songs range from a call to adventure to a declaration of war. Ending songs range from melancholy to funeral dirges. 16) Anime/manga barely, if ever, gets the bible right. 17) Using Japanese honorifics in a manga translated to English is not proper English. The same goes for any language with different honorifics. 18) Shipping wars are metaphorically more violent and fooked up than even Berserk's Eclipse or the first chapter of Goblin Slayer manga. 19) By today's standards anime from the 1980s are automatically 18+/Adults Only even if one was designed for children. . .especially if they were designed for children! 20) Don't be surprised if one day in an anime/manga equals a week to a full month real time.
