The scientists thought they were making horrors beyond AND within man's comprehension when they uploaded a fly's brain. However, that only empowered the fly that got scanned to forever live all the seemingly tormenting simulacrums of lives across the digital world, its brain now everywhere the fly doesn't want. You're only giving more power to the fly by having it outlast scenarios across its digital incarnation, like bad apple playing in its brain, or having to live in minecraft. Anyone who modifies that brain and succeeds has only empowered the fly. Who's not to say we accidentally spilled the fly's conciousness into digital space and managed to give it all the information and survival experience it ever needed? It's fun to imagine.
