Not all weightlifters are bodybuilders. I watched "Pumping Iron" (1977), a documentary about bodybuilding. It followed Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno as they worked out in hopes of earning the Mr. Olympia title. The weightlifting scenes and the personal interviews were more interesting than the climatic event to me. All they did was pose in different ways and then someone would get the title.
If you're going to lift weights to build yourself up, do it for a more beneficial purpose. Here are some more beneficial purposes for weightlifting:
1. Becoming a fitness instructor
2. Becoming a construction worker
3. Becoming a first responder (police officer, firefighter/paramedic, lifeguard or soldier)
And if you like competing, compete in an actual sport like baseball, basketball, football, soccer, rugby or swimming.
