when you color, do you color over the lines, or under?

i do my sketch, clean it up a bit, and do base colors over it in low opacity :]

but if you try changing the background colour after you start colouring it might be a bit hard to do so

Something i do to counteract that sometimes is duplicate the all the drawing layers, merge them, alpha lock and color it white and duplicate it as many times needed to be opague and put it under the drawing
it doesnt always look how i want but if you chip away at some parts it works pretty good

the worst thing is that it took me 3 years to notice the alpha lock button, and to this day i have no idea of what it's used for 💀

its basically a clipping mask but without another layer
