Does Chara give up easily? I would think they would lack DETERMINATION if they were a monster

No, Chara isn't a monster

ThisChara is the result of the failure from the attempt to revive Asriel. They decided to try again, cremating Chara's body and putting it in the soil of a flower injected with Determination. It brought Chara back to life, but without emotion, similar to Flowey. However, Chara worked with the monsters to make themselves an artificial soul so they could feel emotion and be human again. As shown, it needs to be injected with Determination to keep working, and without it they revert to the emotionless flower.

What exactly does the soul juice do? Is the flower form unstable for them to be in or does it just let them stay human-like

It's the Determination they inject

The flower form is similar to Flowey, they lose their emotion. This results in them losing their calm and collected demeanor, as well as their compassion, and becoming cold and callous until they inject more DT.

They know this state is bad for them and try to avoid it, deluding themself into seeing this version of themself as their "human side", giving them another reason to hate humans.

Given that they still care about being human while in flower form I'm guessing even after going full flower it takes a bit for them to become coldhearted like flowey
