when you are a little kid, if you fall down, pain tells you to be more careful, if you did something really bad and your parents spanked you, pain told you to be better, if you cut yourself, pain told you to be more responsible with sharp objects

Thank you, MM -- more sensible words of wisdom!

Pain is one of the best teachers in the world. Pain earns no salary and gains no awards, yet it makes the world such a better place.

you should also respect non-pain related injuries because 10 year old me had an ear infection and had a bone taken out of my ear
0 ups, 2w
Yikes, yep, I getchu -- I was tormented with chronic ear infections until well into adulthood. Though obviously yours were even far worse than mine! OUCHHHHH

well if you think that’s bad just think about falling down the BRICK stairs and bending a tooth, busting a lip and having multiple bloody marks on your body
0 ups, 2w
Ohhhh, much blood, poor baby!!! ... I'm glad my kids pretty much kept blood to a minimum!

Pain can be an exceptional learning experience when employed correctly.

Not only does pain keep you from doing stupid things, it makes you feel empathy when you see someone else in pain. People who haven't felt enough pain in their lives love to laugh at others in pain.

Yes, they lack empathy, i.e., think serial killer

My parents still slap me harder at 25 😭 πŸ˜‚

So did mine -- and I smacked my children when they needed it -- i.e., violated the rules extremely. Today they are both well-educated, decent Christian people who own their homes, are highly respected professionally -- and who occasionally smack their kids, too ... I think the last smack I got might have been when I was closer to 40, LOL

I'm still terrified of my parents. So this means they're actually good parents. But they can also be lovely, so no need to be afraid all the time 😊😁

Well, I'm pretty sure that you're more respectful of your parents than you are truly "scared" of them. They deserve your respect and admiration. And you deserve theirs.

Thank you for not automatically demonizing/vilifying your parents. Oftentimes when parents hit their kids, the story goes like this:

1. The kid does something bad.
2. The parent hits the kid.
3. Everyone turns against the parent because the news and/or social media ignores the bad thing the kid did.

Most parents who hit their kids are not evil, deranged or psychotic, but desperate. They hit their kids because nothing else is working.

When you see someone become your worst nightmare, you should become highly motivated to either straighten up and fly right in hopes of preventing that someone from becoming your worst nightmare again. Other kids decide to rat their parents out, or hit back, or escape.

Here's an idea for lowering instances of parents hitting their kids (not eliminating, but reducing), and discouraging kids who are hit from hitting back or squealing to CPS or running away. Do a survey of thousands of parents. Ask them if they've hit their kids (one survey found 90% of parents have hit their kids), and then ask them why. Use those results to create a list of "Top 10 reasons parents hit their kids", and share it with the world using any reasonable and feasible means.

Child Protective Services does more harm then good because it makes parents more likely to throw their hands up in despair instead of using disciplinary strategies that actually work, and it also makes non-parents more uncomfortable with the idea of becoming parents.

Pain has educational value. Pain discourages you from doing stupid things. Pain also helps you keep your priorities straight. Too many people who haven't felt very much physical pain are too uninhibited and think that getting their feelings hurt or getting laughed at or rejected is the worst thing that could happen to them.

YES, THIS -- thank you. Parents who do not discipline their children do not love them. It's in The Book -- go look it up. I'll wait.

Romans 13:24 says "He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes."

That's the King James Bible version. Here's a link to the text of other versions:

My parents always have been strict. That's why in my life i never did things that other young people does, also cause they can also be lovely, so they deserve peace of minds

Discipline is a logical response to bad behavior, whereas abuse is a much more emotionally charged response to bad behavior.
