I made this meme not only to show how much I dislike Illumination but also to speak the truth. Honestly, Despicable Me should've stayed at 2 movies, those 2 being the original from 2010 and the sequel from 2013. In those 2 movies, it has an excellent amount of character development, and what I mean by that is in the first film, Gru was focused on being the world's number 1 villain by stealing the moon, but after adopting the 3 girls, he realized that there's more to life than villainy, so as a result, he gives it up and commits to being a father. The second movie builds on that with Gru developing an unlikely relationship with his AVL partner, Lucy Wilde, and at the end of that movie, they ended up tying the knot. Everything about that ending was perfect, and it seemed like that the franchise was ready to ride the back seat. But then, Illumination decided to make more useless sequels and a spinoff franchise. Like 2 has everything; 3 was about Gru trying to reconnect with his brother, and that was it. Same thing with 4, as Gru was trying to bond with his son. Honestly, after Despicable Me 2 came out, it seems like Illumination has been constantly putting out garbage, with the expectations of the Mario Movies. Like I mentioned before, where as other animated studios like DreamWorks, Pixar, Sony and Ghibli take the time to create movies with meaning, Illumination makes films that play it safe, have little to no character development, jokes that fall flat on their backs and overall, movies that'll entertain 10 year old children but quickly bore adults. Honestly, Illumination needs to do a much better job in terms of movies because they are quickly losing support, me included. In fact, my support for the studio ended after I saw Despicable Me 4 and all of Illumination's problems were on full display in that movie.
